Watching the sun come up...

Posted on by Rebecca Green

But the sun never really comes up does it? We're spinning around on a tiny litle piece of Earth. Thoughts like this make me feel close to everyone..so I'm sending you all love this morning.

I just wanted to give you a quick update...I have cards for sale! If you're local, I have them in three locations, Minty Keen, Sparrows Coffee Tea & Newsstand, and in Lowell and Ella's Coffee and Cuisine. (I have to deliver them this week, so keep an eye out for them in Lowell.)

And you can buy them from any corner of the world on my webiste! You'll see that they come in a set of 4: Happy Birthday, Miss you, Thank you, and Lets get coffee soon. If you'd like to order 4 but you have a preference for which ones, please let me know and I will be happy to accommodate.

The Cards are 4.25 x 5.5", and are printed on bright white 100lb cover stock, along with a natural colored Cougar Vellum envelope.

I've also got holiday cards in the works so keep your eyes peeled for those! I should be printing those this week.

Other than that, I will say, have a perfect day. You only get so many, and today we are all lucky to be sharing the same sun.

Two more shows you don't want to miss!

Posted on by Rebecca Green

This Saturday if you are in Grand Rapids, we better see you downtown for the Free Radical show! There are a number of venues hosting artwork by 191 Artists! It's a one night only show, which runs from 6 to 10 pm. Since it's Halloween weekend, you should get your garb on and head down.

While your down there, be sure to head to Pub 43 where I have a couple pieces from the City of Lumbourge project. In this venue are a bunch of other sweet pieces. Word is, the afterparty is also going to be held there!

(You can see this framed photogrpah at Pub 43 this weekend!)

I will also be showing work in another show nearby beginning on October 29. Wellspring Church is hosting it's first annual juried exhibition, "Transformation".  The piece I had in ArtPrize, titled, "It was a mystery to us" will be showing. but when I titled the piece for AP, I had another painting in mind, and this one just sort of happened to come out. I am retitling the piece to "Fitting In", which in my mind fits a lot better with the intended narrative. Anyway, here is the piece. Stop down to the Wellspring exhibition, opening reception is Nov 3.

I also have been busy doing a new piece for the winter issue of CraftSanity. Here is a little sneak peak of the illustration, which features a craft project to go along with it. Anyone up for some embroidery? Wink Wink...

Or some Hot Chocolate?

Oh I am getting ahead in Holidays here but pretty soon I will have to whip out Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong, as it's the only thing that keeps me motivated enough to get everything done for the holidays. Starting now doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Have a perfect afternoon, what ever mood you're in.

Beautiful Days

Posted on by Rebecca Green

I have been busy busy working on a number of projects and I thought I would share a couple with you!

The Silent Stair show is approaching fast, and I have been busy painting in old frames, and on old surfaces that have been in my studio waiting to be used.

Simultaneously, I am working on 2 other shows. eeh! Busy! The show at the Gerbens Art Loggia (Dec 8) is also approaching quite fast and I am busy painting for that too.

Here's a the line drawing and underpainting for one of the works for that show. The whole painting features two men carrying houses and businesses on their backs.

I am also finishing up a commissioned painting, of a woodland scene. Here is a detail of the girl in it. The whole painting should be finished in the next couple of weeks, so I will have a final version for you to see.

Here is a front on shot.

I am also working on some smaller commissions for the holidays. Forgive me for posting this before Halloween, but sometimes I have to start my holiday painting before fall is even over. I have been painting Holiday wineglasses.

Here's my closing sketch for the day. I thought this little one was creepy. Silently creepy.

Oh! and..my fella and I carved pumpkins yesterday for his birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY). Here's a beginning shot...I'll have to take some finished pictures soon and share!

I think that's it for now! Im heading back to the studio for the night so I'll share some more progress this week! Have a perfect day!

Too Big Two

Posted on by Rebecca Green

The problem I'm coming across working larger..is that I find it difficult to record paintings. I have painted two very large (for me) paintings in the last couple of months, but cannot share with you the finished versions. I need to figure that out. But! I do have an image of the painting that I created for Artprize, which is loacted at The Spot, on Pearl. You should check it out! Many great paintings in that space..

Hopefully soon, I'll have a better photo for you with some detail shots!

I also finished a painting yesterday of a woodland scene, a 6'x2' painting...my biggest yet. Ill try to have images for you in the week!

Have a wonderful Wednesday morning. How lucky we are to be breathing this day.

Greetings, Greetings

Posted on by Rebecca Green

New greeting cards arrived into the world late last night, from a creepy old building known as my studio. There are 4 different kinds, all being sold at Minty Keen in Grand Rapids, MI. (This store has amazing amazing stuff, all handmade items are from Michigan artists!) You should definitely stop in there to pay a visit and peek through the goods!

photo by Jennifer Ackerman-HaywoodAs well as selling them here at Minty Keen, I will also be selling them online. I think. Online sales are kind of crazy, I haven't found the secret to online sales as of yet. But Im thinking of selling them in packs of 4, one of each kind, in a cute little decorated brown folder. What do you think? I'd love to hear feedback.

Here are the cards!

A real day off?

Posted on by Rebecca Green

As an artist it's hard from me to separate my work from my life, and that is why I'm sharing with you, my work, on my day off. I've been producing lots of work as of late, and felt a bit burnt out last night. So after this post, I am going home to sweep off my porch and put out my little squash friends that I just bought from the farmers market.

Today, I stopped by Byrneboehm Gallery to drop off a painting and I thought I would share it with you. I've got..5 paintings up at the gallery right now, so if you'd like to check out some work in person, head on over there to take a peak.

Also, if your off galavanting through the streets during artprize, be sure to stop down to The Spot, which is the venue located in the Federal Square building. I have a large painting down there, amidst about 20 other artists...all of which provide an eclectic yet charming presentation.

OK. Time to go spruce up my place for my favorite season.

A Full Fall!

Posted on by Rebecca Green

Mark your calendars!

The Silent Stair
{Works by Peregrine Angthius and Rebecca Green}
Nov 19. at The GreenLion Gallery!

So Perry and I have been busy painting away, working on a show we are calling, 'The Silent Stair'. This show is a little less formal that others that I have been involved in, which has allowed for some sweet experiments...like painting on old fanblades and framing miniature cakes. That's right! Miniatures! We are also going to try our hand at painting on the walls and not just in frames. It will be a sweet show and you do not want to miss it. Seriously.

Here's a sneak peek at Susan Ripple, Former Fan.

So this fall, I am realizing, is already jam packed. I don't know if I could take on more work if I wanted to. After the show at GreenLion on the 19th of November, I will be hastily prepping and hanging work for my solo exhibition at Grand Rapids Christian Schools. I've just started working on this body of work (don't stress! I work better under pressure!) And am going to be using watercolor and gauche..which is very rare for me. So far, I am having a blast.

Here is a little piece of happy from the beginning stages of that show..

The Show: "WE LIVE. {A visual exploration of life's little happenings}"

December 8th at the Devos Arts and Worship Center at Grand Rapids Chirstian Schools.

man oh man. I have got my work cut out for me. But for now, I have to do what I love most: eat lunch.

Rebecca Green..Teaming up with GRCC and The Ice Gurus!

Posted on by Rebecca Green

For the last couple of months, I have been busy working with GRCC, creating work for their GRCC Works Promotions and Merchandise, which has been great! Here are a couple examples of what you can find at the GRCC Tent in The BOB Parking lot during Artprize!

The above image is going on writing journals! And the one below is going on bags. These will all be branded for GRCC, and I understand they are going to have a ton of fun events and contests going on during artprize. I hear they are also representing many of the programs of GRCC by having representatives from the programs come down. Musicians?! Artists? What could be cooler.

Alongside creating drawings for them, I was asked to design the ice sculpture to be created by the Ice Gurus for this artprize event. I went it to see it last Friday, It's Amazing! So cool to learn about such a foreign (to me) medium and process. I got to go into the ice freezer where the magic happens to learn a little more about the prcoess, so I could understand how exactly to design it. After a couple preliminary sketches, we all decided on a final design. Here is the finished version of the drawing:

And here is a video of the work in progress!

What an amazing opportunity, to see your work turned into a life size ice sculpture! And what talented artists these guys are. So so cool. Thanks to all involved. And to all of you, be sure to stop down to ArtPrize to see the ice sculpture in person! Here's a small segment from FOX 17 to fill you in on some of the details!

Alright people! I'm headed out for now. Today, finishing up a small set project for Gorilla Pictures, where I am building a fake aged wooden floor. Ill post pics tonight! Such a different project for me, but thats the best part about my job..I am forever doing things I say yes to (but actually have never done before) :)

Studio Photos!

Posted on by Rebecca Green

So, before I head off to work on projects, I wanted to quickly share with you some studio portraits that were taken by the talented photographer, Ryan Pavlovich.  He came into my studio a couple weeks back and shot some photos for his personal portfolio, adding these to an already impressing collection of artist and craftsman portraits. Check out this body of work, and all the other incredible photography he has done at www.ryanpavlovich.com.

Yay for talent in Grand Rapids! Check him out!

Sweet Morning.

Posted on by Rebecca Green

I just thought I'd share with you some sketches I have been working on for a commissioned painting.

It's a sweet little woodland scene...

In other news, I am finishing up some painting to deilver to Byrneboehm Gallery in the beginning of next week. I have a rough beginning of one of them. Since this photo was taken, I have almost finished this painting, so look for it in a couple of days!

Alright! Im off to The Ice Guru's Studio to check out the new ice sculpture they are finishing, with I had the pleasure of designing. Excited to see it! Ill let you know the details soon, of how you can check it out too!

Have a wonderfully blissful and adventurous day!

New plans as the sun shines through..

Posted on by Rebecca Green

Now that fall is here, I am buckling down..waking with my fella at six. Off to work by 8:30, and to my surprise, it's an absolute delight! Generally, I work into the wee hours of the night, but I am trying to get a better schedule going. I feel like it might make me a little more professional..maybe give me some more gusto any time someone cocks their head at my carreer choice. "You're an artist? So like, all you do is sit in here and paint all day?" Yeah jerk. But I wake up early to do it. haha

I started on a very large painting this morning. Sometimes when I paint, something cute happens and I can hardly stand what I'm painting becasue the object is so heartwrenching in an adorable way. Today I am painting chipmunks and deer. I want to cry everytime I look at the board becasue these creatures just cut right to my core. Those big watery eyes. Oh!

Ill send ya some little photos tomorrow. I just wanted to pop on today to say hi, hello, the weather is beautiful and Im so thankful for breaths. Autumn is here!
